Introduction

This is a collection of my ideas and observations of our society. You don't have to agree with me, they're my opinions. Mainly these are the things I wish someone told me if I were younger.

My current blog format is to discuss a single topic each week on Tuesday and Thursday. Less serious stuff will occasionally be posted on other days.

Why the Devil's Advocate?

For the non-Catholics readers, the Devil's Advocate (or Advocatus Diaboli) used to be a real position in the Catholic Church to argue against the merits of a candidate for sainthood. While an unpopular position, the position benefits those whom are successfully canonized, rather than letting the sainthood be swamped with those unworthy of the position.

Advice often benefits the giver not the recipient. A devil's advocate is needed to provide a counterpoint. When arguments are constructed for you, a devil's advocate is needed to show other options. Sometimes, a devil's advocate is needed to suggest sin or incite rebellion against conformity.
